NEWS FROM SOUTHERN TASMANIA
Travel With Purpose in Southern Tasmania
We know that we are seeing more and more growth in the conscious traveller segment across the globe. In response to that, DST has developed Travel With Purpose, our positive impact prospectus, to help visitors give something back to the places the visit through their booking choices; to help visitors better engage with the environments and communities they are visiting, thereby creating stronger ties which foster repeat visitation and referrals; and to showcase operators doing great positive impact work and hopefully inspire others to get on board.
The prospectus highlights southern Tasmanian tourism operators which:
prioritise sustainability as a core value throughout their operations
go beyond off-setting and energy saving, and actually have a positive impact on the community and environment in which they operate, and
have an on-ground experience through which visitors can connect and contribute.
We know this prospectus is incomplete and there are more of you out there doing great stuff. If you think you should be included, please hit the button below and let us know how you are fulfilling the three criteria above.
Be featured in Tasmania’s most visible and widely distributed visitor guide to receive substantial exposure for a full 12 months. Advertisers have guaranteed access to stock of guides.
The Department of State Growth is undertaking targeted consultation to refresh the current strategy by capturing new challenges and opportunities that have emerged since the last consultation four years ago.
The consultation is seeking input from representative organisations and peak bodies, as well as Tasmanian small businesses and members of the public with an interest in small business.
You can participate in the consultation process by either answering the online survey or providing a written submission. Consultation closes 15 May, 2026.
Destination Southern Tasmania is always interested in your industry updates. Completing this form lets us know what’s happening in your business or region. Your news and information may be shared with Tourism Tasmania and throughout the Destination Southern Tasmania social, email and web channels. Priority is given to DST members.
TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT
Global Agritourism Conference
23-25 June, 2026 Aberdeen, Scotland
The Global Agritourism Network has over 1400 members from 118 countries. The network's main aim is to facilitate knowledge sharing about agritourism operations, research, practices, training, and building friendships, with a view to facilitating knowledge sharing through more inter-country hosting or exchange trips. Australia has approximately 70 members who meet online several times per year and regularly contribute to relevant webinars.
Of the 22 people currently registered for the conference from Australia and New Zealand, eight will travel from Tasmania, which is impressive representation from a tiny island at the other end of the Earth. Our own Tim Parsons from Curringa Farm is the Co-Chair of the Global Agritourism Network AU/NZ and will be presenting at the conference on how far agritourism has advanced in Australia over the last four years.
The conference takes place just after the Royal Edinburgh Show and offers some amazing pre- and post-conference tour options. Australian agritourism is highly regarded on the world stage and there are still vacancies for anyone contemplating a Scottish Summer holiday. More details about the conference can be found HERE, or Tim has offered for you to contact him directly to talk agritourism and/or the conference on 0437 833 334 or tim@curringafarm.com.au.
